I'm thinking of heading up to check out the Sun and moon face up diamond fork canyon today.  I know there is some other glyphs nearby, has anyone heard of other sun face glyphs within say a 30 mile circle?

I forgot that the gate just past the campground is closed during the winter....bummer.  Its not that far of a walk to where the faces are, normally I would have cruised up but there were loads of people due to the weather being amazing.

FYI, the "Moon" carved next to the "Sun" was done by Boy Scouts not too many years ago. The only thing on that rock face when I first visited the site in 1979 was the Sun. Many more modern carvings have been added over time. Too bad the Spanish Crosses and Bird signs across the river have been vandalized! We kept that site a secret for over 30 years. Now you see why!

Many years ago an old friend of mine Ray Clegg who lived in Springville took me into Monks Hollow and up the canyon to where he once worked for a pair of old miners who found a little gold there. Ray was a lad of 16 then. He died 10 years ago at the healthy age of 78. Anyway, he told me about an old mine he found while prospecting the back side of Rattlesnake Hill. He said the mine was hidden in the brush and the way he found it was by pure accident. He was told by the two old miners that the mine was one they had been looking for but never found it. Right after that, the two old men were forced to give up their mining adventures due to old age. Ray ended up in the Army and after that hitch, he came home to raise a family. He tried years later to relocate the mine but never did. I am confident the Crosses and bird sign lead the way to that mine.

Thanks Doc for shedding some light on the 'moon', it didn't really seem to fit the 'feel' of that area.  It has definitely thrown people off who have been looking for the meaning to the symbols.
